Softball Recap: Eastside Ghosts vs. Clifton Mustangs
Eastside extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-10 in the process. They lost 22-3 to the Clifton Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-1 on April 4th.
As for Clifton, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. Considering they have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
For Clifton's part, Andrea Cedeno was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Cedeno was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Clifton got a massive performance out of Casey Mullen, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance also gave Mullen a new career-high in hits (three). Josephine Zagorski was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one double.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Eastside is set to square off against their familiar foe Kennedy at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Clifton will take on rival Bergen Tech at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
