Baseball Recap: Manchester Wins Going Away Against Northfield

Manchester won the last time they faced Northfield and things went their way on Thursday too. The Squires put the hurt on the Norsemen with a sharp 13-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Squires, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Harper Sturtsman was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. He has become a key player for Manchester: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 8-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, Ethan Hendrix was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Dallas Martin, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Manchester kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.

Manchester's record is now 11-12. As for Northfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-15.

Manchester has already played their next game, a 17-11 win against Southwood on the 23rd. As for Northfield, they will head out to face off against Wabash at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Norsemen are facing the Apaches at the right time seeing as the Apaches are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
