Softball Recap: Piscataway Comes Up Short

Piscataway was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against East Brunswick Vo-Tech, falling 11-5. That's two games in a row now that the Chiefs have lost by exactly six runs.

Samantha Venturi was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and nine unearned) runs off eight hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Julianna Mena was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mia Salgado, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Piscataway's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for East Brunswick Vo-Tech, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Looking ahead, Piscataway will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Kennedy Memorial at 4:00 p.m. As for East Brunswick Vo-Tech, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Edison at 4:00 p.m. on the 25th.
