Recap: Carl Albert Titans vs. Piedmont Wildcats
The Carl Albert Titans put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Piedmont 38-24. Given Carl Albert's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked third, while Piedmont is ranked 30th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Carl Albert's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kevin Sperry, who threw for 312 yards and a touchdown while picking up 13.6 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Xavier Robinson, who rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns.
Carl Albert's win was their 11th straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 10-0. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 9-1 Guthrie and 11-2 Elk City (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 59.1% over those games). As for Piedmont, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-3.
Carl Albert has the luxury of staying home another week and will welcome El Reno at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. As for Piedmont, they will head out on the road to face off against Elgin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Elgin will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
