Football Recap: Westview Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Westview had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 27-16 win over the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns. That's more bragging rights for the Wolverines, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Westview's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Matthew Guimond led the charge by throwing for 206 yards and one TD. A healthy portion of that aerial production (80 yards to be exact) went to Miles Miranda.

Westview's run defense was locked in: Rancho Buena Vista could only muster 3.3 yards per carry. While two picked up at least five total tackles, Charles Jaskowiak stood above the rest. He picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made five total tackles. Westview's ground attack was stronger, having averaged five.

Westview's defense didn't let Van Piercy, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jaskowiak, Gavin Bibler, and JJ Vargas, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Westview now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Rancho Buena Vista, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-4 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westview will square off against Fallbrook at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Rancho Buena Vista, they will welcome Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Longhorns will be up against the Panthers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 38.22 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
