Softball Recap: Pinole Valley Extends Winning Streak to Eight

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Pinole Valley had no problem doing just that on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Tamalpais Red Tailed Hawks 3-2. The win was nothing new for the Spartans as they're now sitting on eight straight.

Mckenzie Ortega spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ayla Serrano, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Julissa Sanchez, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Pinole Valley pushed their record up to 18-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.8 runs. As for Tamalpais, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-10.

As of now, neither Pinole Valley nor the Red Tailed Hawks have any future games scheduled.
