Florence falls despite strong effort from Gage Goodall

Recap: Florence Huskies vs. The Vanguard School Coursers

The Florence Huskies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They fell 78-69 to The Vanguard School. While losing is never fun, Florence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 171st, while The Vanguard School is ranked 36th).

Despite the loss, Florence still got an impressive performance from Gage Goodall, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 11 rebounds. Goodall scored a full 40.6% of Florence's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Gunnar Phillips, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Florence were working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

The Vanguard School's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JJ Wetters, who scored 20 points along with seven assists and three steals. Wetters also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Nathan Morris was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Florence's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for The Vanguard School, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Florence will head out on the road to face off against James Irwin at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in James Irwin's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Florence has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season. The Vanguard School will take on Lamar at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
