Football Game Preview: Luther Lions vs. Stroud Tigers

Two dominant backs in Maurtice Wright and Jacob Beck are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Luther Lions will host the Stroud Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Luther has given up an average of 30.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Luther is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest defeat since August 29th on Friday. They were outmatched by Casady and fell 65-12. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Luther saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Isaiah Zapata picked up 54 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 33 yards.

Meanwhile, Stroud had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36.4 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Eagles 52-3. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 33-3.

Stroud's win came from a few key players Luther will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Aiden Collins, who picked up 159 receiving yards and three scores. Those 159 receiving yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Cropp, who threw for 222 yards and three TDs on only ten passes.

Stroud was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 381 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hennessey only rushed for 133.

Stroud's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Luther, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Luther was dealt a bruising 58-0 loss at the hands of Stroud in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Lions, Kason Presley (who rushed for 188 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
