Softball Game Preview: Windham Bombers vs. Cardinal Huskies

The Windham Bombers are taking a road trip to face off against the Cardinal Huskies at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Windham has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight defeats, while Cardinal will come in with three straight wins.

Windham couldn't beat Mathews on Monday even though they stacked five runs on them in the fourth inning. The Bombers fell 12-9 to the Mustangs.

Makenzi Blockinger and Aralynn Woofter stepped up to the plate in a big way. Blockinger went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles, while Woofter went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Alexandria Hudak was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one triple.

Meanwhile, Cardinal made easy work of Grand Valley on Monday and carried off a 14-3 victory. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by ten runs or more this season.

Kacie Carman made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Natali, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emily Pleva, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Windham's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Cardinal, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Windham suffered a grim 11-4 defeat to Cardinal when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Bombers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
