Volleyball Recap: Escalante Takes a Loss

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Escalante and Cuba, and Cuba kept the tradition alive. The Lobos lost 3-0 to the Rams on Tuesday. The Lobos were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Escalante was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the third set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 25-11, 25-23.

Xavanni Rivas paced Escalante's offense, picking up ten kills. Rivas got some help from Elexia Trejo and her 15 assists. Finally, Rivas was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high four blocks.

Escalante's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Cuba, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season.

Escalante and Cuba will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Lobos will take on rival Questa at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Cuba is set to square off against their familiar foe Sandia Prep at 6:15 p.m. on the 9th.
