Baseball Recap: Platt Gets the Win

Platt won the last time they faced Newington and things went their way on Monday too. The Panthers walked away with a 9-5 win over the Nor easters.

The team relied heavily on Gio DeMatteo, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Platt is undefeated when DeMatteo posts two or more runs, but 7-10-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jeam Ortiz, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Platt lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory got Platt back to even at 10-10-1. As for Newington, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Platt will venture away from home to square off against Plainville at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blue Devils will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Newington, they will be playing at home against Southington at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Nor easters' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
