Football Recap: Maranatha Christian Extends Winning Streak to 11

With a playoff win on the line, Maranatha Christian rose to the challenge on Friday. They really took it to the Clairemont Chieftains for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-6 victory. Considering the Eagles have won nine games by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

A big part of Maranatha Christian's win came down to the chemistry between Shane Piester and his top target Dane Johnson. Piester threw for 148 yards and two TDs while completing 91.7% of his passes while Johnson gained 78 total yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Johnson a new career-high in receiving yards (68).

One reason for the win was Maranatha Christian's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Caleb Kennedy, Nathan Niguidula, and Aiden Sarazin, who each picked up one sack apiece. Maranatha Christian received some extra help from Harrison Boehning, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

When it comes to explaining why Clairemont lost, don't look at Tyler Allen. Despite the final result, he rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown. Allen's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 100 rushing yards.

The victory was the 11th in a row for Maranatha Christian, bringing their record up to 11-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.5 points over those games. As for Clairemont, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.

Maranatha Christian will face off against Palo Verde Valley at 7:00 p.m. on the 22nd. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Yellow Jackets have now posted at least 31 points in their last four matchups. Clairemont does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
