Basketball Recap: Purvis Comes Up Short

Purvis was the 61-53 winner over West Marion when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. The Purvis Tornadoes took a 75-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Marion Trojans on Tuesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (59), the Tornadoes still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Purvis still got an impressive performance from Jace Gipson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 19 boards. The dominant performance gave Gipson a new career-high in boards. Beni Raanes was another key player, going 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points along with eight boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Purvis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Purvis now has a losing record at 5-6. As for West Marion, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Purvis will take on Mize in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for West Marion, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against St. Stanislaus at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
