Baseball Recap: Great Bridge Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Great Bridge ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They skirted past the Kempsville Chiefs 4-3. The victory was nothing new for the Wildcats as they're now sitting on four straight.

Jaxen Whitehurst was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Tristan Cheek also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Great Bridge's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Kempsville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

Great Bridge and Kempsville should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Wildcats (ranked 18th) will meet King's Fork (ranked 297th) at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Kempsville will challenge Green Run at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (99 vs. 306).
