The Chazy Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Schroon Lake Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Chazy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
Chazy is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest loss since May 11, 2024 on Tuesday. They lost 12-2 to Saranac. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Chazy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Poirier, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Schroon Lake got the win against Boquet Valley on Friday by a conclusive 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won three contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
Lucas LaPerle was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.
In other batting news, Julian Porcaro was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Schroon Lake is undefeated when Porcaro posts three or more hits, but 1-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Witherell, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Schroon Lake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.
Schroon Lake has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Chazy, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Schroon Lake's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Chazy has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Schroon Lake, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Chazy's sizable advantage in that area, the Wildcats will need to find a way to close that gap.
