Wakeland waltzed into their game on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victor by a 9-3 margin over the Plano Wildcats. The Wolverines have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wildcats, too.
Jordan Mcnees tossed a big game, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Lauren McIllwain was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Thomas, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Wakeland pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs over those games. As for Plano, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Wakeland wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 10-0 victory against McKinney on the 21st. Plano has also already played their next contest (against Birdville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
