Basketball Game Preview: Robinson Rockets vs. La Vega Pirates

Robinson hasn't had much luck against La Vega recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Robinson Rockets will look to defend their home court against the La Vega Pirates at 6:15 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, in a tight matchup that could have gone either way, Robinson made off with a 52-51 victory over Connally.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask La Vega). They blew past China Spring 90-41 on Tuesday. The team ran away with 80 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the win.

La Vega's win came from a few key players Robinson will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Angela Carroll, who went 10 for 15 on her way to 25 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alaysia Gude, who went 7 of 15 on her way to 17 points and six steals.

La Vega smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive games.

La Vega's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-6. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 34.9 points. As for Robinson, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.

Robinson was taken down by La Vega 105-36 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Robinson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
