League recap: Omaha North tops Omaha Westside to extend winning streak

A District 2 recap December 3, 2013

Omaha North extended the longest winning streak in A District 2 this week by beating Omaha Westside, 23-21. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Vikings.

Omaha North and the Warriors played the most contested game in the league this week, with Omaha North eventually emerging with a 23-21 victory. Calvin Strong ran for 197 yards in the win.

Larry Martin's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Payton Nelson threw for 131 and 1 touchdown and Marquise Lewis had 104 yards receiving. On the ground Strong chipped in 197 yards. Grant Martin helped Omaha North's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 15 yards.

The Vikings' dynamic duo of Nelson and Lewis proved to be unstoppable against Omaha Westside, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Martin helped Omaha North's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 15 yards.

Strong was a passing and rushing force as Omaha North beat Brett Froendt's team. Strong's key target this week was Lewis, who caught 3 passes for 104 yards.

Bellevue West's Brad Brazeal and CJ Johnson led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Brazeal has thrown for 2,770 yards this season, while Johnson has 79 catches for 1,364 yards. The Vikings' Strong leads the league in rushing yards with 3,008.

So far this year, he has acheived 64 catches for 911 yards.

Omaha North made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 397 from 607. The advance stemmed from a 23-21 victory over the Warriors last week.
