Baseball Game Preview: Poland Seminary Bulldogs vs. Shenango Wildcats

The Poland Seminary Bulldogs will square off against the Shenango Wildcats at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Poland Seminary 2.5, Shenango 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Poland Seminary and Boardman, and Poland Seminary kept the tradition alive. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Spartans 7-6. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, while Shenango put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for New Castle. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Hurricanes with a sharp 13-0 victory. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Jonathan Santangelo looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.

At the plate, Joey Campoli was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April. Matt Fry was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Shenango is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Poland Seminary, their victory bumped their record up to 13-3.

Poland Seminary took their win against Shenango in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-8 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
