Volleyball Recap: Oakmont's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

After flying high against Mira Loma last Monday, Oakmont came back down to earth. The Oakmont Vikings fell 3-1 to the John Adams Academy Rsvl/Lin Patriots on Wednesday. While the Vikings didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Patriots 25-21 in the first set.

Oakmont started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-18.

Troy Maxsom paced Oakmont's offense, picking up 22 kills. Maxsom got some help from Adam Wegsteen and his 35 assists. Wegsteen was also solid from the service line: he led the team with three aces.

Oakmont moved to 6-6 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for John Adams Academy Rsvl/Lin, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-3.

Coming up, Oakmont will take on West Campus at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for John Adams Academy Rsvl/Lin, they will face off against Sierra Academy of Expeditionary Learning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Sierra Academy of Expeditionary Learning has won three straight at home, while John Adams Academy Rsvl/Lin won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
