Baseball Recap: Pius XI Catholic Popes vs. Brookfield Academy Blue Knights
Pius XI Catholic extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping their season record down to 3-12 in the process. They came up short against the Brookfield Academy Blue Knights, falling 10-3. The Popes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Isaac Deida was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
As for Brookfield Academy, their record is now 8-4. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
On Brookfield Academy's side, they got a great performance from Patrick Mahoney as he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, Noah Thompson and Nick Roth did most of the damage at the plate: Thompson went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Roth went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave Roth a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Connor Tracy, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one double.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pius XI Catholic will welcome Homestead at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Brookfield Academy, they will host Luther Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Knights are facing the Phoenix at the right time seeing as the Phoenix are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
