Basketball Preview: Sissonville Indians vs. Winfield Generals

The Sissonville Indians's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Winfield Generals at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Hopefully Sissonville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Monday.

Last Monday, Sissonville faced the Wildcats in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Sissonville's rough 55-32 defeat to the Wildcats might stick with them for a while. Sissonville found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post nine fewer assists than your opponent.

Sissonville's defeat came about despite a quality game from Kynadee Britton, who scored 20 points. That was a full 62.5% of Sissonville's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ava Hillabold, who scored a point along with seven rebounds and six steals.

Meanwhile, Winfield came up short against the Tigers on Thursday and fell 47-36. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Winfield in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite their loss, Winfield saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kaitlyn Sayre, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Gabriella Canterbury was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six assists and four steals.

Sissonville's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Winfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.

Saturday's contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Sissonville have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Winfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Sissonville was able to grind out a solid win over the Generals when the teams last played last Tuesday, winning 44-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sissonville since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
