Spurger is 0-10 against Big Sandy since April of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Pirates will face off against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Spurger is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.7 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Spurger didn't have quite enough to beat Sabine Pass and fell 9-7.
Cauy Crain made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Joe Feilder, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Big Sandy duked it out with Hull-Daisetta on Thursday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 12-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Corbin Cude was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Big Sandy is 3-1 when Cude allows one or fewer hits, but 7-10 otherwise. Cude was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Ezekiel Angel was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple and one run. Connor Ratcliff was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Big Sandy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hull-Daisetta only posted an OBP of .095.
Big Sandy's record is now 10-11. As for Spurger, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
Big Sandy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Spurger hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. It's a different story for Big Sandy, though, as they've only averaged .226. Will they be able to contain Spurger's hitters?
Spurger couldn't quite get it done against Big Sandy in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 as they fell 7-4. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
