The Segerstrom Jaguars will venture away from home to square off against the Brea Olinda Wildcats at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
If Segerstrom beats Brea Olinda with six runs on Saturday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Jaguars came out on top in a nail-biter against Estancia on Wednesday, sneaking past 6-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Jaguars.
Joseph Mendez tossed a big game, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Zack Bretza, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Noah Lopez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Brea Olinda came tearing into Friday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Raiders.
Brea Olinda also got a great performance from Nicholas Rodriguez as he pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits.
At the plate, Nick Davis was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Brayden Robinson, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Brea Olinda's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Segerstrom, their record is now 7-16.
Everything went Segerstrom's way against Brea Olinda in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as Segerstrom made off with a 10-1 win. Do the Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
