Preview: Waterford Wildcats vs. Le Grand Bulldogs
The Waterford Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Le Grand Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Waterford fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They breezed by Denair on the road to the tune of 41-14.
Christian Gayle and Bryan Martinez were among the main playmakers for Waterford as the former picked up 51 receiving yards and three touchdowns and the latter threw for 216 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.2% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Le Grand had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Mariposa County 49-20 on the road. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Le Grand had established a 28 point advantage.
It was another big night for Alexis Granados, who rushed for 222 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. Le Grand also got help from Reyes Diaz who showed off his sure hands for 93 receiving yards.
Waterford's win bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Le Grand, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
Waterford came up short against Le Grand when the teams last played back in September, falling 41-28. Can Waterford avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
