Football Recap: Bethesda Academy's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Bethesda Academy extended their winning streak to seven on Thursday, bumping them up to 7-0. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 28-26 victory over the Williamsburg Academy Stallions. The win was all the more spectacular given the Blazers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 241st in Georgia, while the Stallions are ranked 95th in South Carolina).

Jordan Cheever produced another solid performance rushing for 204 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Turner, who threw for 158 yards and a pair of TDs.

Having lost for the first time this season, Williamsburg Academy fell to 7-1. The matchup marked their lowest-scoring game so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Williamsburg Academy lost, don't look at Grant Small. Despite the final result, he rushed for 114 yards and two scores. Small is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 108 every time he's taken the field this season. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Charlie Caulder, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Bethesda Academy has already played their next contest, a 49-0 victory against Pee Dee Academy on the 24th. As for Williamsburg Academy, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Dorchester Academy at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Stallions 11.2, the Raiders 10.1) so any points scored will be well earned.
