Recap: Lincoln Southeast Knights vs. Columbus Discoverers
The Lincoln Southeast Knights won the last time they faced the Columbus Discoverers, and things went their way on Friday too. Lincoln Southeast claimed a resounding 60-31 victory over Columbus at home. Given Lincoln Southeast's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while Columbus is ranked 250th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kendall Hinton was the offensive standout of the contest as he scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Deng Giet, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Despite the loss, Columbus had strong showings from Quinn Freshour, who scored ten points, and Griffin Micek, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Lincoln Southeast now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Columbus, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lincoln Southeast will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Lincoln North Star at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Allowing an average of 51.6 points per game, Lincoln North Star has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this game. Columbus and Norfolk will face off at 2:45 p.m. on December 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Norfolk focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
