Hope Christian got a 45 - 2 win over Los Alamos last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Vince Quezada. Quezada rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns. That performance landed Quezada among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Hobbs (5th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Las Cruces (10th). Hobbs strolled past Las Cruces with points to spare, taking the game 36 - 21. The Las Cruces defense has struggled this season (giving up an average of 34 points per game), and Hobbs took advantage of that.
Game of Inches
Goddard repeated its 28-point performance from the game before for another record-booster in its most recent game. It won an extremely close contest against Los Lunas with a final score of 28 - 27. The outcome was a definite jolt of excitement for Goddard after its previous game, where the margin was anything but close. The razor-thin margin made this game the most thrilling one of the week.
No Stoppin 'Em
Artesia managed to bank 123 more yards than its opponent Lovington last week, and going the extra distance paid off. Artesia took its contest against Lovington by a conclusive 50 - 21 score. One of the main ringleaders for Artesia was junior Clay Houghtaling, who threw for 215 yards and three touchdowns. The combined 71 points was the most of any game featuring a power-ranked team.
