Baseball Recap: Hillcrest Takes a Loss

Hillcrest had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 8-15 to make it six. They came up short against the West Jordan Jaguars, falling 12-2. If the Huskies were looking for revenge after losing 12-9 to the Jaguars when the teams met back in March of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Hillcrest saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Tomlinson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs. Tomlinson is becoming a predictor of the Huskies' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 4-14 when he doesn't).

As for West Jordan, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On West Jordan's side, Tyson Ashworth made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Ashworth has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2025.

In other batting news, Brendan Wood was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryn Gibson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

While Hillcrest had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
