The ringleader of high school basketball's longest win streak at 136 games, Emily Ryan of Central Plains is the 2019-20 Suddenlink Kansas Player of the Year.

The 5-foot-9 guard piled up over 3,000 career points and averaged 29 per game this season as a senior. The Iowa State signee and Top 100 recruit also produced 6.7 assists and 5.8 steals per outing.

She finished as the state career leader in steals (599), field goal percentage (73.8, 231 of 290) and free throw percentage (90.5, 408 of 451), and season field goal percentage (79.6, 231 of 290). 

Central Plains went 104-0 during Ryan's career, including 25-0 this year. The Oilers were two wins away from their seventh consecutive state title before the coronavirus pandemic put an end to the high school basketball season in Kansas.

Central Plains coach Pat Stiles, the father of Women's Basketball Hall of Famer Jackie Stiles, said Ryan was worthy of the award in every aspect of the game and beyond.

"Her statistics say so much, but what I'll remember most is her leadership skills," Stiles said. "She is a big reason why we never had a bad practice. She constantly chirped at the team in a positive manner, yelled their name after making a basket, she scouted teams, encouraged everyone. She is simply way beyond her years as a person and a player. I've never seen a young person be able to communicate at that level ever.

"She was very much like having a coach right on the court. Her impact on this program is beyond words." 

Led the Trojans to a 23-0 season by averaging 18.8 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.5 steals. Canady shot 56 percent from the floor.

One of the state's top all-around athletes, Hartman averaged 21.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game for the 24-0 Lancers. Also participates in volleyball, softball and track and field.

Led a team that broke its own state record for margin of victory (57.4) and points allowed per game (20.2). Ryan was the Kansas 2A Player of the Year as a freshman and first team All-Kansas for all classes as a sophomore.

Averaged 23.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game while leading the Cardinals to a 21-3 record. She had six games of 30 points or more, with a high of 34.

No. 8 recruit nationally in the Class of 2021, Verhulst averaged 17.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.5 blocks per game for the top-ranked Stags (21-2). She was the Gatorade Kansas Player of the Year.

Daughter of a coach, Hackerott is one of the few players in the state to average double digits in points (17.9) and rebounds (11.0). She also averaged 3.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game. 

Top 100 recruit helped her team to a 17-7 record. Said Georgia Tech coach Nell Fortner of Love: "(Lele) is a tremendous athlete ... she has the ability to put the ball on the floor and take you off the bounce."

The strong inside work of Mullens led yet another undefeated team in Kansas. Mullens averaged 14.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game for the 23-0 Redskins.

In 24 games (23 victories), Schubert averaged 18.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

The highest-scoring ninth-grader in the state, Smith averaged 20.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.7 steals per game for the 23-0 Trojans.

Averaged 19.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game.

One of the most active players in the state, Byers averaged 18.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.9 steals per game. She led the Cardinals to a 16-6 record.

Averaged 24.0 points, 4.4 steals and 4.3 assists per game.

Posted 20.6 points, 4.9 steals, 3.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists for the 16-6 Blue Jays. Dubbert was also the leading hitter on the school's volleyball team.

In 22 games, Simmons averaged 18.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. She scored 25 points or more four times.
