Football Recap: Aidan Shepherd and Braelyn Geremonte Secure Win for Mineola

After only eight points in their last contest, Mineola made sure to put some points up on the board against North Lamar on Friday. The Yellowjackets put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 37-14 win. The Yellowjackets' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Braelyn Geremonte and Aidan Shepherd. Geremonte rushed for 135 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.5 yards per carry while Shepherd gained 61 total yards and a touchdown. With that strong performance, Geremonte is now averaging an impressive 101 rushing yards per game.

Mineola was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 334 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 168 rushing yards in seven consecutive games dating back to last season.

Mineola didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Kolten Garrigus, Eric Casper, and Kipton Neighbors picked up one apiece. Mineola got some further help from Ayden Phillips: he made ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).

The victory got Mineola back to even at 2-2. As for North Lamar, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, Mineola is taking a road trip to challenge Mount Vernon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup will give the Yellowjackets their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for North Lamar, they will host Ford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. North Lamar will need to watch out since Ford has now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
