Basketball Preview: Coolidge Colts vs. Ballou Knights
Coolidge and the Knights are an even 3-3 against one another since December of 2016, but not for long. The Coolidge Colts will head out on the road to square off against the Ballou Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Coolidge will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Last Friday, Coolidge faced the Tigers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Coolidge sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 43-40 victory over the Tigers.
Josslyn Derricott continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a triple-double on 20 points, 11 rebounds, and ten blocks. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last eight times she's played. Jaylyn Derricott was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Ballou took a serious blow against the Roughriders back in January, falling 55-23. Ballou has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Coolidge is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for Ballou, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-10.
Everything came up roses for Coolidge against the Knights in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 47-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Coolidge since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
