Recap: Southern Lab Kittens vs. Liberty Magnet Patriots
It was a good run, but the Southern Lab Kittens unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Monday. They were the victim of a rough 81-61 loss at the hands of Liberty Magnet. Southern Lab was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-21.
Liberty Magnet's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Howard Gaskins Jr., who scored 16 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Gaskins Jr. posted eight or more assists. Marquise McPipe was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Southern Lab's defeat dropped their record down to 15-9. As for Liberty Magnet, they pushed their record up to 23-2 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Lab won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Glen Oaks at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Glen Oaks is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Liberty Magnet, they will head out on the road to challenge St. Thomas Aquinas at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Thomas Aquinas will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Louisiana Rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Liberty Magnet is ranked first).
