Football Recap: Burnet Comes Up Short

After soaring to 31 points the game before, Burnet was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They took a 14-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fredericksburg Billies. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Billies apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Fisher Powell threw for 44 yards on six of 17 attempts. Matthew Williams was his top target, picking up 61 receiving yards. On the ground, Josiah Coronado rushed for 120 yards.

Fredericksburg found their leader in sophomore Kress Mohr, who rushed for 93 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries, and also threw for 116 yards on 12 of 19 attempts.

Burnet's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Fredericksburg, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Looking ahead, Burnet will venture away from home to take on Gatesville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets' defense has only allowed ten points per game this season, so the Bulldogs' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Fredericksburg, they will host Uvalde at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Billies will be up against the Coyotes/Lobos (for girls)'s rather soft defense (which has allowed 32 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
