Basketball Recap: Burns Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Colby Putnam and Tye Clay

If Burns was feeling good fresh off their 93-44 takedown of Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Burns Bulldogs fell 69-61 to the Shelby Golden Lions on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Golden Lions this season, with their most recent loss being a 69-51 defeat last Friday.

Tye Clay and Colby Putnam certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Clay en route to 24 points, while Putnam to rack up 17 points and four steals. Clay's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Marshall McGowan, who posted four points and five assists.

Leading Shelby to victory were Tee Hollifield and Grady Morgan. Hollifield dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Morgan on his way to 21 points. The dominant performance also gave Hollifield a new career-high in blocks (two). Lorenzo Roseboro was another key player, to rack up 10 points and five boards.

Burns' defeat dropped their record down to 19-7. As for Shelby, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-7.

Burns wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, an 88-69 loss against Bandys on the 25th. As for Shelby, they have also already played their next contest, a 69-53 victory against R-S Central on the 25th.
