Basketball Recap: Grace Leffler's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Coral Shores over Key West

After flying high against Varsity Opponent last Tuesday, Coral Shores came back down to earth. The Coral Shores Hurricanes fell 48-36 to the Key West Conchs on Wednesday. The Hurricanes' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Several Hurricanes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Grace Leffler, who went 7 of 16 en route to 17 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alex Burson, who posted six points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Coral Shores smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Key West got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Damarla Thompson out in front who dropped a double-double on ten points and 17 boards. Jaylin Greene was another key player, going 6 for 13 on her way to 14 points.

Coral Shores now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Key West, their win ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coral Shores has already played their next matchup (against Varsity Opponent), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Key West has also has no score uploaded for their next game, this one against Westminster Christian.
