Softball Recap: Durham School of the Arts Comes Up Short

Durham School of the Arts had lost 15 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-13 to make it 16. They lost 18-0 to the J.F. Webb Warriors. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Bulldogs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for J.F. Webb, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.

For J.F. Webb's part, Terrie Thornton was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Thornton has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Makayla Jennings and Simone Ovando did most of the damage at the plate: Jennings got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one double, while Ovando got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyasia Brown, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, Durham School of the Arts will take on Carrboro at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jaguars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.58 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for J.F. Webb, they will square off against Granville Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
