Softball Recap: Homer Victorious

Homer came out on top against Leslie on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Trojans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Blackhawks. That's more bragging rights for the Trojans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Payten Minix was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Lani Miller was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Ellerie Kissinger was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.

Homer now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Leslie, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Coming up, Homer will be playing at home against Springport at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Leslie, they will head out to face off against Michigan Center at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
