Volleyball Game Preview: Watauga Pioneers vs. Sun Valley Spartans + Official Tickets

The Watauga Pioneers will square off against the Sun Valley Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Watauga will be looking to extend their current 24-game winning streak.

Watauga is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They put the hurt on A.C. Reynolds with a sharp 3-0 win.

Watauga can attribute much of their success to Lainey Gragg, who had 12 digs and two blocks, and Lilli Combs, who had seven digs. Gragg is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 12 or more in each of the last 44 games she's played dating back to last season. Julia Rowan also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.

Watauga was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in 15 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Sun Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They blew past Asheboro 3-0 on Tuesday.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 25-15, 25-18.

Watauga's victory bumped their record up to 24-1. As for Sun Valley, their win bumped their record up to 20-13.

Watauga couldn't quite get it done against Sun Valley when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as they fell 3-1. Can the Pioneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
