Baseball Recap: Northglenn Takes a Loss

Northglenn had lost six straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 7-14 to make it seven. They came up short against the Brighton Bulldogs, falling 18-0. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Norsemen's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Brighton, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-8. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 4-17 Mountain Range and 7-14 Northglenn.

For Brighton's part, Nolan Engle made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Engle a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Austin Waltemath was incredible, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Brighton: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Blake George was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Coming up, Northglenn will head out to square off against Mountain Range at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Norsemen are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for Brighton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Boulder at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
