Basketball Recap: Woodlands Academy Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Woodlands Academy can now relate to. They came up short against the Willows Academy Eagles on Tuesday, falling 49-24. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 550th, while the Eagles are ranked 247th).

Despite the loss, Woodlands Academy still got an impressive performance from Claudia Arguelles Rodriguez, who posted six points and five boards. Those six points gave Arguelles Rodriguez a new career-high. Kit Kirkendall also deserves some recognition as she scored her first point of the season.

Even though they lost, Woodlands Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Woodlands Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. Willows Academy is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-8 record this season.

Woodlands Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Willows Academy, they will face off against North Shore Country Day at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Shore Country Day will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Willows Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
