Baseball Game Preview: Cuyahoga Heights Red Wolves vs. Open Door Christian Patriots

The Cuyahoga Heights Red Wolves will square off against the Open Door Christian Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cuyahoga Heights has five straight wins, Open Door Christian has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Wednesday, Cuyahoga Heights needed a bit of extra time to put away Berkshire. They skirted past the Badgers 3-2.

Nick Dabrowski spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cuyahoga Heights saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Tommer, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Those three hits gave Tommer a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Open Door Christian didn't have quite enough to beat Firelands on Monday and fell 6-5.

Ian Reed made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Dylan Drop, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Cuyahoga Heights pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Open Door Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-16.

Cuyahoga Heights came out on top in a nail-biter against Open Door Christian in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, sneaking past 1-0. Will the Red Wolves repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
