Montezuma-Cortez had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Mancos Bluejays by a score of 35-22 on Saturday. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bluejays, too.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Montezuma-Cortez to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kiera Hayes, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sariah Jackson, who earned nine points.

This is the second loss in a row for Mancos and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Montezuma-Cortez will take on Sargent in a tournament on Saturday. As for Mancos, they are taking a road trip to face off against Ignacio at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
