Volleyball Recap: Franklin Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Raleigh Charter on Monday, Franklin Academy came back down to earth. The Patriots lost 3-0 to the Research Triangle Raptors on Thursday. The defeat continues a trend for the Patriots in their meetings with the Raptors: they've now lost five in a row.

Franklin Academy was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the third set very close. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-19, 25-23.

Their offense was headlined by Clara Clarke and Abigail Cuppett, who picked up three kills apiece. They got some help from Carson Turner and her five assists. Cuppett was also a major player on defense: she and Faye Farrelly shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with four each.

Research Triangle found their leader in sophomore Kat Liquorie, who had 15 digs and three aces. Liquorie is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last four games she's played.

Franklin Academy's loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Research Triangle, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3.

As of now, neither Franklin Academy nor the Raptors have any future games scheduled.
