Softball Recap: West Carteret Triumphs

West Carteret got themselves on the board against Dixon on Tuesday, but Dixon never followed suit. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs, sneaking past 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

The result came thanks to Caitlin Dumarce's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, West Carteret's victory was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Millie Kate Young, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

West Carteret's win bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Dixon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.

West Carteret will take on Havelock at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Dixon, they will challenge Swansboro at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
