Baseball Recap: Skutt Catholic Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Skutt Catholic walked away with it. They blew past the Hastings Tigers 12-1 on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the SkyHawks, who have now won 15 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Jace Ziola looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Will Sims was excellent, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dylan Van Dyke, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one double.

Skutt Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hastings struck out seven times.

The win was the third in a row for Skutt Catholic, bringing their record up to 23-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hastings, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 13-12 record.

As of now, neither Skutt Catholic nor the Tigers have any future games scheduled.
