Baseball Recap: Middletown Triumphs

Middletown's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They walked away with a 10-5 win over the Lancaster Catholic Crusaders. Considering the Blue Raiders' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Middletown got a great performance from Mason Stiffler as he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Stiffler also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Blue Raiders are undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 5-8 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on J.P. Horetsky, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jacob Miller, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Middletown's victory bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Lancaster Catholic, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season.

Middletown will take on Annville-Cleona at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Lancaster Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
