Softball Game Preview: Douglas Tigers vs. Carson Senators

Douglas has gone 9-1 against Carson recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Tigers are taking a road trip to take on the Senators at 11:00 a.m. Douglas is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Douglas fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Spanish Springs on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 5-4. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Camryn McLelland was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ida Martin, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Carson faced Damonte Ranch in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Senators fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 6-5. The Senators just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.

Rhys Branham made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ari Gallardo-Yanez, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Douglas' record is now 19-8. As for Carson, their record now sits at 9-14-1.

Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Douglas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .371. However, it's not like Carson struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Douglas took their victory against Carson in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
