Softball Recap: Troup Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Troup can now relate to. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the De Kalb Bears on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-3 on Thursday.

Taylor Gillispie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kiyah Arterberry made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Heather Longino, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Troup and nudges their season record down to 26-7. As for De Kalb, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 30-4.

While Troup had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Saturday.
