Basketball Recap: Momence Gets the Win

If Donovan wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Momence, they should've done a better job of containing Erick Castillo. The Momence Athletics walked away with a 52-39 victory over the Wildcats on Tuesday with plenty of help from Castillo, who shot 69% from the field to rack up 23 points and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Momence's points.

Another player making a difference was Sam Fitzgerald, who posted four points and five steals. He is becoming a predictor of Momence's success: when he posts at least three steals the team is undefeated (and 11-13 when he doesn't).

Momence's record is now 15-13. As for Donovan, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 15 of their last 17 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-21 record this season.

Momence and Donovan are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Momence Athletics will take on Bowen at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Momence will be up against the Boilermakers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 53.46 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Donovan, they will square off against Milford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
